Some Contests

Let's just dive right in:

Robert Frost Poetry Festival Haiku Contest: Accepts 3-line haiku, 17 syllables or less. Entry fee of $10 covers three haiku. There will be prizes of $100/$50/$25, plus two Honorable Mentions. Postmark deadline is March 23rd.

Poets Contest Corner Poetry Competition: An online fledgling poetry contest. There will be a $200 top prize, plus two $50 runner up prizes. Submit up to 3 poems per $5 entry fee (unpublished poems only). Deadline is Feb 28th, and the winners will be posted the next week. It doesn't look like the judges want haiku or tanka, judging from the poll posted below the guidelines, but be sure to check it out and let them know what you think.

Words Magazine Short Story Competition: This page lists all of the magazine's 2009 contests. The current contest closes March 30th, and the theme is "Murder." There is no entry fee and a top prize of £100. No simultaneous submissions, but you can send as many entries (up to 2000 words each) as you want by email. The guidelines don't mention whether the stories have to be unpublished or not.

I've had so little time to write or even submit here lately. I'm really starting to feel some frustration. I hope I'll have a bit of time next week, although the first half of it will be full of grading.

grading - yuck. doesn't sound too fun. you should definitely make time for something lighter, like writing or submitting.

greg,
the most recent published material of mine is a haibun titled
"portfolio," in the current issue of simply haiku.

Ed - I like "unemployment office," that one's going in my list of favorite haikus. and "portfolio" is good, too... awesome juxtaposition between the harvest moon and empty cupboard.

Ed,
I'm sorry for your loss. he sounds like he would have been an interesting guy to know.
