I wrote a review of William Higginson and Penny Harter's The Haiku Handbook, and today it appears big and bright on Helium's front page. If you've never read The Haiku Handbook and you read or write haiku, you'll want to check it out.
The fine folks who bring us DailyHaiku have expanded their horizons and now present DailyHaiga, an online edited journal of haiga. They've already got some good ones posted, and submissions are currently open.
To even this post out with some horror news, here are two fiction contests:
- Ligonier Valley Writers flash fiction contest: Submit stories up to 1000 words long on the theme of "Werewolves and other Shapeshifters." Doesn't have to be scary, and there's no entry fee. Three top prizes of $50, $25, and $15. Deadline is August 15th.
- Whispering Spirits Revival flash fiction contest: This one also wants stories up to 1000 words. No genre specified, but "paranormal" stories are preferred. First prize is $50, and second and third place each receive a $10 Amazon gift certificate. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, and the deadline is August 31st.
