The Pedestal Magazine, a free haiku chapbook

The Pedestal Magazine reopens to submissions today, through October 13th.  This time around, they'll only be looking for poetry.  You can submit up to 6 poems at a time, and payment is $40 per accepted poem.

Snapshot Press just released several free e-chapbooks that you can read online.  One of these is Rope Marks, a collection of haiku by Chad Lee Robinson.  This book is really good, with several superb poems.  The haiku are all written well, with each word chosen carefully.  It's free -- check it out.

2012 Snapshot Press eChapbook Awards

The Snapshot Press eChapbook Awards were originally supposed to close in July, but the deadline has been extended to September 15th.  There are four categories you can enter a manuscript in: haiku, tanka, short haibun, and short poetry.  The entry fee is steep, at $30, but all entrants will receive a copy of the print anthology containing selected winning works.  The winning chapbooks will be published online as e-books.

2 magazines, 1 haiku contest

Vestal Review and Ellipsis are both open for submissions right now.  Vestal Review is accepting subs through the end of November, and pays from 3 to 10 cents per word.  Ellipsis closes November 1st, and pays a flat, unspecified rate for accepted work.  (It has paid $10 for a poem in the past, but that rate may have changed since then.)

The Irish Haiku Society's International Haiku Competition is now open as well.  Entries must be mailed, and there is a $4 fee per haiku (or you can enter 7 poems for $25).  The three top prizes are 150 Euro, 50 Euro, and 30 Euro.  All entries need to be postmarked by November 30th.

Writer's Digest Write It Your Way Competition

Writer's Digest is sponsoring the Write It Your Way Short-Story Competition.  Even though "short-story" is in the title, you can submit fiction or nonfiction (up to 1200 words).  The theme for the contest is "new beginnings."  This is a regular contest, and the winner will receive a free entry for next month's competition (along with $25 worth of stuff from WritersDigestShop.com).  Entries are $5 each, and the submission deadline is August 15th.
